PURPOSE:
Oversee all aspects of the Christian Education program at Riverside Presbyterian Church (RPC). RPC is a progressive congregation, a member of the Presbyterian Church (USA)

ACCOUNTABILITY:
Session and Head of Staff

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Theological Degree (or working towards a theological degree
Or a degree in Education
Or a Social Work of Psychology Degree
Experience working with children and youth experience

COMPENSATION:
Competitive Salary based on experience

RESPONSIBILITIES:
20 Hours per week, including Sunday mornings

SUNDAY SCHOOL

  1. Help select curriculum
  2. Focusing on:
    1. Bible Basics
    2. Reformed Theology
    3. Societal issues and pressures including but not limited to:
    4. Body image
    5. Eating disorders
    6. Drug abuse
    7. Safe spaces
  3. Recruitment, training, and cultivation of volunteer teachers
  4. Recruit, train and support childcare staffing
  5. Assist in supplemental Christian Education experiences, such as Vacation Bible School, mid-week Bible or Theological Study
  6. Complete required forms as per Christian Education policy and provide copies to Personnel Committee (volunteer questionnaires, background checks, etc.)

YOUTH WORK

  1. Develop a vibrant Middle School and Senior High Youth program
  2. Recruitment, training, and cultivation of Adult volunteers
  3. Plan and attend the meetings
  4. Develop a curriculum focusing on:
    1. Bible Basics
    2. Reformed Theology
    3. Societal issues and pressures including but not limited to:
    4. Body image
    5. Eating disorders
    6. Drug abuse
    7. Safe spaces
  5. Plan and Lead the Senior High Mission Trip (ordinarily one week in the summer)
  6. Plan and Lead the Middle School Mission Trip (ordinarily a weekend)
  7. Announce Trip locations in fall
  8. Secure and Train adult chaperones for both trips
  9. Plan Fundraising events for both trips
  10. Maintain a Budget for both trips
  11. Organize occasional field trips
  12. Track participation and service hours for all youth participants.

OTHER DUTIES

Provide the Sunday Morning Children’s message as requested by the Pastor

Preach 4 – 6 times a year

Promote Christian Education programs through the Newsletter, website, Facebook and bulletin

Attend Christian Education Committee meetings

Attend Occasional Session Meeting

Monitor the annual budgets

Prepare an annual report

Participate in regular staff meetings
