Luke 1:26-38

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.”

God sent, sent an angel

Her angel, Mary’s angel

With a word, a word from God.

Had Mary been praying?

Bombarding heaven with a request?

Or was this God’s way of responding

To an unspoken need of assurance?

Either way

God’s presence was made known in her life.

Maybe she, Mary, wondered

where she, Mary, stood with God?

And was confronted with the answer,

“Greetings favored one,”

Maybe she, Mary, felt alone before

Her angel Gabriel spoke, “The Lord is with you.”

What assurance to the silence

that may befall us sometimes

What assurance to the words

that may emerge in abundance dancing from our soul

God did send, God has sent

God will send an angel,

Your angel with a word from God.

Prayer

Oh what a blessed assurance to know that you, God, will respond to our silent prayers as well as those spoken openly. Thank you that angels continue to appear proving that you remain active and fully present in our lives. To you O God be honor, glory, majesty and power! Amen!

What's this?
